Artist to Watch - This is Johann Vera

Artist to Watch - This is Johann Vera

Johan at the age of 11 was one of the finalists of the Colombian Version for kids of the popular tv show The X Factor. Now, he is back in Miami, where he now resides, and work in many different projects from music, acting and theater.

The passion that Johann has for the arts started at a very young age, self discovering music on his own, and finding the real passion for singing. “Every kids love to sing and dance, and move around” said Johann. But a dream of playing pretend to be on stage changed when got into the finals of the Colombian version of The X Factor. The process was hard to get to the final; he had to go through various auditions before even meeting with the celebrity judges for the first time, and after that he had to do more extended process of auditions where each and every time more kids were eliminated to make it to the final 15; Johann was one of the fifteen, after thousands of kids all over the country competed for one of this spots.

Johan is all grown up now and back in Miami after living a couple years as an expat in Colombia. Johann went through a process of artist development from scholarships in the top academies of music in the country, to developing a stage presence in Broadway style musicals. Johann is a dreamer, a talent, a vision, and that’s why he is an artist to watch.

Sensescope sat down with Johan Vera in an interview were he talked with us about his experience in the Colombian version of The X Factor for kids, working for one of the biggest theater production companies in Bogota, and his future projects in Miami. This is Johan Vera:

How did you got involved with Music and Arts?
I would have to say my Brother, he started making me listen to a lot of artists, making me sing around people, and making listen to a lot of different types of music; but it wasn’t anything professional, it was just to love it (Music and Entertainment). He was the one who pushed me to go to the X factor, because before that, I didn’t thought I could actually sing. I thank him for that.

How was your Experience being in the Xs Factor Colombia?
The X Factor was one of the greatest experiences in my life! I learn so much from it. I had great teachers, and it was the first time I was in big stages, and I was doing interviews, and it was the first time I got to see myself on TV… It was a great experience.

What happen after the X Factor?
After I got out of the X factor, they gave me a scholarship to study in Fernando Sor, one of the greatest music schools in Bogota, I studied for a year, I prepared myself better, and after that, I found one of the greatest musical theater company of all Colombia, and that’s where I went to continue to prepare myself and in my career.

Johann with the Musical theater company did four shows, two of them were big professionals shows; one was Oliver Twist and the other was The Michael Jackson Tribute that will be going on tour this 2015 in Colombia.

How was your experience being on stage?
I love it! I really love theater. It’s live. You are living the moment. You have the audience there with you laughing, crying with you, singing with you. So it’s completely different to TV.

What Projects have you done in Miami?
First, I got my manager. I worked for a Nickelodeon TV show, were I did 8 episodes wit a really small part… I did a commercial with Flo Rida, and a Music Video with Ricky Martin.

What are your aspirations for the Future?
I really have big dreams, but for now I want to continue acting, while a keep studying… and after that I will like to fully dedicate to music, that is my passion!
